B ACKGROUNDQuality of life is an important factor in life. The quality of life factor is seen from the physical, psychological, social, and environmental aspects. Patients with thalassemia experience various impacts on the disease and its management (blood transfusion). This study aimed to assess the relationship between transfusion frequency and quality of life.METHODThis research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. The subjects of this study were male and female thalassemia aged 17-25 years and regularly received blood transfusions, were able to communicate and use electronic media, and were willing to be respondents. Exclusion criteria were having other chronic diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) and experiencing complications. Assessment of quality of life was carried out using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. The frequency of transfusion is based on the number of transfusions received per year. The analysis was carried out by using Fisher's exact test on the SPSS version 25 program with a significance level of 0.05.RESULTSGender distribution is 61% female and 39%, male. The frequency of transfusion- associated with various quality of life domains did not show a significant relationship to the physical, psychological, social, environmental domains. Occupational factors show a significant relationship to the social domain.CONCLUSIONThere is no significant relationship between the frequency of transfusion on various domains of quality of life, there is a significant relationship between the variables of work and quality of life.
