Teh hitam mengandung fluor yang mempunyai efek anti bakteriostatik yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan S. mutans penyebab karies gigi. Mekanisme fluor teh hitam dalam menghambat pertumbuhan S. mutans melalui hambatan enolase, enzim yang mengkatalisis sintesis fosfo-enolasepiruvat (PEP). Sehingga transportasi karbohidrat ke dalam sel S. mutans akan dihambat. Dengan demikianS. mutans akan kekurangan sumber karbon untuk kehidupannya. Adanya hambatan enolase menyebabkan mekanisme pemhentukan energi tidak berkerja. Dari uraian diatas terlihat mekanisme fluor teh hitam dalam upaya pencegahan karies gigi.

So the transportation of carbohydrates into S. mutans will be inhibited. Than, S. mutans will lost its carbon source for its life. The inhibition of enolase also makes the mechanism of producing the energy stop working. From what has been written, we could see the fluoride mechanism of black tea on preventing dental caries.
