Berdasarkan rekomendasi internasional rerata IMT, 36.4% subjek mengalami obes. 73.2% orang mempunyai penumpukan lemak perut (obesitas sentral), berdasarkan dari pengukuran lingkar perut. 69.6% perempuan pascamnopause menderita hipertensi.
B ackgroundHypertension is one of the cardiovascular disease causing of highest mortality, especially in postmenopausal women. Prevalence of hypertension in postmenopausal women is higher than men in their age, that is 41% postmenopausal women has hypertension. Hypertension may occur because of several factors, one of those is central obesity which play a role in emerging of insulin resistance, that is finally influencing hypertension pathogenesis. The change of estrogen hormone during menopausal transition is a big contribution to the change of body fat distribution, which is marked by increasing of fat accumulation in stomach, instead of obesity generally. It is influenced by decreased estrogen hormone during menopause phase. The purpose of this research, to find relationship between abdominal circumference and hypertension in postmenopausal women.MethodsThis type of research is an observational, with cross-sectional approach. The research was conducted in woman aged 50 – 60 years old who are post-menopause in Sub-district Balimester, East Jakarta. Methods cluster random sampling was used to collect subject in this research.ResultThe age range was 50 – 60 years old; the majority (56.8%) was 50 – 55 year of age. The abdominal circumference (AC) was positively correlated with hypertension in postmenopausal women. Based on internationally recommended BMI cut-off point, 36.4% were found to be obese. 73.2% person had abdominal fat accumulation (abdominal obesity), based on the abdominal circumference measurement. 69.6% subject were hypertensive. And there were risk factors may cause increasing of hypertension such, age, education, profession, exercise, smoking, salt consumption, and food behavior.ConclusionThere was Significant relationship between abdominal circumference and hypertension in postmenopausal women, with p value is 0.000
