B ackground: Oral mucositis is one of the most common complications followingchemotherapy and/or head and neck radiotherapy. Various treatments for oralmucositis have been proposed. However, so far there has still been no review of themost frequent and most effective type of therapy to treat oral mucositis. Objective:This systematic review aims to determine the most frequent and most effectivetypes of therapy to treat and reduce the severity of oral mucositis. Methods: Theliterature search was carried out using PRISMA guidelines. Publications from 2010to June 2021 with an RCT, clinical trial, prospective observational and retrospectiveobservational research design were included from databases (Pubmed, CochraneLibrary, and Wiley Online Library). Results: From 1274 journals obtained, 47journals were finally included and analyzed. Oral mucositis was found to be morecommon in males than females (2.12 vs. 1) with age of 56.39 (18 - 90 years). Themost commonly used types of therapy are low-level laser therapy and lysozymebasedcompounds. Meanwhile, the most effective type of therapy is the low-levellaser therapy. Conclusion: Low level laser therapy is the most commonly used oralmucositis therapy and is also the most effective in reducing the degree of oralmucositis and associated pain.
