B ackground: High prevalence of malocclusion caused the increased of orthodontic treatment needs, including removable orthodontic appliance. However, placement of this appliance increased the attachment area of oral microorganisms including Candida albicans that can cause the appearance of angular cheilitis. Objective: To determine the clinical features of angular cheilitis in removable orthodontic appliance wearers at RSGM-P FKG Trisakti University Methods: This study was a descriptive study with cross sectional approach. 34 children who met the inclusion criteria were recruited in this study. Samples were obtained by consecutive sampling on September – November 2016. Angular cheilitis clinical examination performed on the corners of the mouth of the subjects, followed by OHI-S examination, habits like lip licking and cleaning routine of orthodontic appliance noted, periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining performed on specimens from the corners of the mouth, which were obtained with oral mycological smear for 17 samples obtained on October 16th – November 30th 2016. The results were analyzed to count the prevalence and to construct the distribution table. Results: A 9 year old girl was 1 out of 34 subjects (2.9%) who suffered from angular cheilitis. She has a moderate score of OHI-S, lip licking habit, doesn’t clean her orthodontic appliance routinely, and Candida hyphae was found in this patient. Conclusion: Angular cheilitis was found in patient with removable orthodontic appliance.
