Pengaruh periodontitis terhadap keparahan covid-19 : scoping review
L atar Belakang : Pada Desember 2019, SARS-CoV-2 menyebar di Hubei, Cinamenyebabkan pandemi COVID-19. COVID-19 melibatkan berbagai organ, terutama pernapasan.
B ackground : On December 2019, SARS-CoV-2 spread in Hubei, China causingCOVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 affects various organs, especially respiration.Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation of periodontal tissues that inflicts impact onsystemic immune response, thus periodontitis is expected to contribute to COVID-19 severity. Aim : The aim of this research was to describe various researchmethods used to discover the the effects of periodontitis towards COVID-19severity, and to describe blood parameters, biomarkers, and COVID-19 severityparameters which are significantly disparate in COVID-19 patients withperiodontitis. Method : This scoping review was conducted using PRISMAdiagram consisted of literature related to COVID-19 patients as population, periodontitis impact towards COVID-19 severity as concept, and global as contextin three databases, namely PubMed, WILEY, and Google Scholar. Result : Fivejournals in accordance with inclusion criteria stated several associations betweenperiodontitis and COVID-19 severity, which consists of one cross sectional study, two cohorts, one case control, and one analytical retrospective study. COVID-19severity was measured based upon several parameters, which comprises of bloodparameters, biomarkers, hospitalization, mortality, ICU support, and ventilationassistance. Conclusion : Research methods used to discover the effects ofperiodontitis towards COVID-19 severity were case control, cohort, cross sectional, and analytical retrospective study. Periodontitis worsens COVID-19 severity byincreasing D-dimer, troponin, CRP, pro-BNP, procalcitonin, HbA1c, ferritin, andWBC, thus increasing hospitalization rate, mortality, ICU support, and ventilationassistance.
