W Work shift is an employment system that uses 24 hours a day, where employee work schedules are often outside standard working hours. This work system is usually used in various kinds of work, including police officers, nurses, and security forces (security guards). Shift work can adversely affect sleep quality due to circadian rhythm disturbances. This study aims to determine the relationship between work shifts and the quality of sleep in security guards. This study is an observational analytic study with cross sectional design approach. The study sample was taken by non-randomsampling consecutive techniques totaling 117 respondents. Respondent data were obtained through interviews, questionnaires, and examination of body weight and height. Data analysis that was processed with the SPSS version 20.0 program was carried out by univariate and bivariate using the Chi-square statistical test. Work shifts in this study are reviewed from 3 components. Based on data analysis, there is a relationship between years of service and quality of sleep (p = 0.003). There is a relationship between the period of shift change and sleep quality (p = 0.002). There is a relationship between the number of night shifts and the quality of sleep (p = 0.002). A total of 72 respondents from a total of 117 respondents experienced poor sleep quality (n = 61.5%). It can be concluded that there is a relationship between work shifts and the quality of sleep in a security guard.
