L Lumpur pemboran yang digunakan dapat menentukan kecepatan pemboran, efisiensi, keselamatan dan biaya pemboran sehingga harus mempunyai kemampuan pengangkatan serbuk bor (cutting) yang baik. Pengangkatan cutting yang tidak optimal akan menyebabkan cutting mengendap kembali ke dasar sumur dan menimbulkan permasalahan dalam operasi pemboran. Pada tugas akhir ini dilakukan evaluasi pengangkatan cutting pada sumur AU-17 trayek 12 ¼†dan 8 ½†menggunakan lumpur berbahan dasar KCl Polymer karena formasi batuan yang ditembus terdapat kandungan clay sehingga mencegah terjadinya swelling claypada formasi. Pada Sumur AU-17 diperoleh efisiensi waktu pengeboran 23 % lebih cepat dari rencana pengeboran yang telah dibuat. Parameter keberhasilan kemampuan pengangkatan cutting dapat menggunakan metode Cutting Carrying Index (CCI) dengan hasil >1, Cutting Transport Ratio (CTR) >50% dan Cutting Capacity Annulus (CCA) < 5%. Salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi proses pengangkatan cutting hingga ke permukaan, diantaranya yaitu kecepatan fluida di annulus yang sebagai fungsi dari rate pemompaan yang diberikan dan luas area di annulus, konsentrasi pada cutting di dalam lumpur pemboran, laju penembusan (rate of penetration). Pengevaluasian pengangkatan cutting didapatkan hasil pada trayek 12 ¼†dengan metode Cutting Carrying Index (CCI)didapatkan nilai 2,273 – 9,454, metode Cutting Transport Ration (CTR) didapatkan nilai 71,360 % – 81,187% dan pada metode Cutting Concentration in Annulus (CCA)didapatkan nilai 4,822 % – 4,907 %. Pada trayek 8 ½†memiliki hasil pengangkatan cutting dengan metode Cutting Carrying Index (CCI)didapatkan nilai 4,852 – 14,492, metode Cutting Transport Ration (CTR) didapatkan nilai 86,199% - 90,107% dan metode Cutting Concentration in Annulus (CCA)didapatkan nilai 4,708 % - 4,782 %. Pada penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa komposisi lumpur menentukan keberhasilan kegiatan pemboran sehingga parameter lumpur yang akan digunakan sangat berpengaruh. Parameter pemboran seperti rate of penetration (ROP) yang digunakan terlalu tinggi dan flowrate pompa yang terlalu rendah akan membuat proses pengangkatan cutting yang buruk yang menyebabkan pengendapan cutting sehingga keduanya harus ditentukan dengan tepat untuk menghasilkan hole cleaning yang baik.
