T he means of transportation, namely motorized vehicles, are known to be one of the potential causes of air pollution. Residual combustion of fuel released into the air contains heavy metals, lead or lead (Pb), which can pollute the air. Heavy metals can naturally enter the soil ecosystem and cause pollution. This heavy metal pollution can disrupt the balance of the ecosystem by affecting the life of the invertebrate population in the soil, including earthworms. Earthworms are known to accumulate a number of metals from contaminated soil, so that they can be used as organisms to monitor relatively the presence of toxic metals in the terrestrial (soil) habitat.Research objective was to determine the ability of earthworm biota to absorb heavy metal Pb found in the soil at the location of the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road and Bona Sarana Indah housing estates, Luarahan Cikokol and Tangerang District. In addition, studying the possibility of earthworms being used as bioindicators by taking into account the influence of the soil environment. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Chemistry and Biology, Research and Development Center for Isotope and Radiation Technology, National Nuclear Energy Agency, Pasar Jumat Jakarta, from February to May 1999. The research materials used were earthworms and soil from the street location told to housing. The parameters observed were the effect of Pb heavy metal content in the soil on earthworms at toll road and residential locations. The parameters observed were the effect of heavy metal Pb content in the soil on earthworms at toll road and residential locations, as well as soil environmental factors (acidity (Ph), temperature, humidity, C-organic content and cation exchange capacity) on the presence of Pb in the soil. Measurement of Pb levels was carried out using an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer with an excitation source of 109 Cd.The data analysis used linear regression analysis and correlation matrix. This analysis is intended to determine the effect of Pb levels in the soil on Pb levels in earthworms and the effect of the soil environment on the presence of Pb levels in the soil. The results of research at the location of the road told and housing show that earthworms are able to absorb Pb metal with varying levels. Pb levels in earthworm biomass at toll road locations ranged from 29,730-83,270 ppm and in residential locations ranged from 23,830-53,740 ppm, while levels of Pb in the soil at toll road locations ranged from 67,000-249,000 ppm and at residential locations ranged from 53,000 -81,380 ppm. To determine the ability of earthworms to absorb metals, a concentration factor can be used. The results showed that the magnitude of the Pb concentration factor in toll road locations ranged from 0.310-0.600 and in residential locations was 0.440-0.910. Soil properties that most influence the presence of Pb at toll road locations are acidity (Ph), humidity, C-organic content and cation exchange capacity, while in residential locations acidity (pH) and humidity.
