Abstract

P Pada penyakit periodontal terdapat hubungan antara kondisi rongga mulut denganbeberapa kondisi respiratori. Rongga mulut adalah tempat reservoir potensial daribakteri patogen respiratori. Bakteri periodontophatic dapat terhirup ke paru-parudan menyebabkan chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Penyakitperiodontal dihubungkan dengan enzim di saliva yang dapat merubah permukaanmukosa, menjadi tempat adhesi dan kolonisasi bakteri patogen respiratori, danterhirup ke dalam paru-paru.

A An association between oral conditions such as periodontal disease and severalrespiratory conditions has been noted. The oral cavity has long been considered apotensial reservoir for respiratory pathogens. Oral periodontophatic bacteria canbe aspirated into the lung to causing Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD). Periodontal disease associated enzymes in saliva may modify mucosalsurfaces to promote adhesion and colonization by respiratory pathogens, whichare then aspirated into the lung.
