S Surakarta Muhammadiyah University is a university with the concept of Islamic based education which is trying to continuously improve its self-image through improving the quality of facilities and infrastructure, referring to the need for open space within the campus environment. Based on current conditions, efforts to provide an identity as a campus based on Islam have not been applied optimally both in terms of functions, ecological and aesthetic aspects. Therefore, to create an identity of the Surakarta Muhammadiyah University as an Islamic campus, it is necessary to develop an outer space design with the application of the Islamic Park Concept which can be a campus identity in accordance with the scientific field. The beauty or aesthetics and atmosphere in the outer space is one of the important things in a campus area, therefore it is necessary to have an understanding of the Islamic Concept in terms of outer space or the Islamic Garden Concept. This study uses descriptive qualitative method, namely the direct observation approach in the field in the form of interviews, questionnaires and documentation which then results are combined with literature studies on the Islamic Park Concept. The results of this study is in the form of an understanding of the concept of Islamic parks that will be applied at the stage of development of campus landscape design.
