P PT Batubara Lahat is a company in the field of coal mining located in South Sumatra with the open pit mining method. This method carries out an excavation process that will produce water with low acidity or commonly known as acid mine water. Acid mine water is produced by oxidation of sulfide minerals in rocks by oxygen in the air in waterfilled environments. In good mining practice, the company is responsible for overcoming the potential formation of acid mine water, one of which is a geochemical characterization study of rocks with laboratories, namely static tests and kinetic tests where static tests are measured in total sulfur, paste pH, NAG pH, and Acid Base Accounting (ABA) methods, while kinetic tests with the Free Draining Column Leach Test (FDCLT) method. The samples used in this study used side rock samples of PT Batubara Lahat, namely BL-A1, BL-A2, BL-B, BL-C, BL-D, BL-E and BL-F. Based on the results of the study, BL-A1 and BL-A2 samples are categorized as Potentially Acid Forming (PAF) rocks while BL-B, BL-C, BL-D, BL-E and BL-F samples are categorized as Non Acid Forming (NAF). The results of the research can be considered by PT Batubara Lahat in managing the rock pile area to meet the established environmental standards.
