T he high population growth in the cities, especially the city of Jakarta, has made various problems, such as hygiene problems. Kecamatan Tambora was one of the districts in West Jakarta with a population in 2009 of approximately 259,854 inhabitants. This area is adjacent to the North Jakarta district. The composition data, and characteristics of solid waste are really needed as an option of the assessment of waste treatment system. For that reason, the research of the composition and characteristics of waste for the load transfer station in the Tanah Sereal district and Pekojan district is carefully conducted. Sampling was conducted for eight days at a stretch. From the district known to the volume of waste data for 1041 m3/day. Physical composition of waste in the load transfer station is approximately dominated by 60.83% of organic waste which consists of kitchen waste (food scraps) (60%), and garden waste (0.83%), while the inorganic waste amounting to 39.17%, which consists of textiles cotton (22.99%), plastics (9.78%), paper (1.32%), glass (0.76%), iron (0.29%), metals (0.19%), wood (0.08%), rubber (0.02) and others (3.51%). The research has shown us that the chemical composition of waste has moisture content of 76.90%, 3.98% ash content and energy content of 4191 kcal / kg. Based on the research of the physical composition and chemical composition of waste in the load transfer station Tambora District, the waste that can be proceeded in the load transfer station of Tambora area is 60,91% for the composting of organic, wood, paper and 35.56% of reusable material for paper, plastic, cans, glass, cloth, iron and metal.
