BDNF berpotensi menjadi biomarker pemulihan otot

B BACKGROUNDPhysical activity has significant benefits for physical health andneuroprotection. Endurance exercises, such as cardio or aerobic workouts, enhance cardiovascular fitness, improve blood flow to the brain, and stimulateantioxidant molecules like Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) that protect nerve cells,as well as Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), which supports the growthand differentiation of neurons. However, physical activity also carries the risk ofcausing muscle damage, particularly in individuals who are less active. Researchindicates that BDNF plays a role in muscle recovery through the regulation ofsatellite cells. Nonetheless, these studies have primarily been limited to animalmodels. This research aims to explore the potential of serum BDNF as a markerfor muscle repair processes following physical activity in men aged 18-30 whoengage in infrequent exercise.METHODSThis research employs a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test andpost-test approach, analyzing changes in BDNF levels among 30 male participantsaged 18-30 years. Blood samples were collected three times: before exercise, immediately after, and 72 hours following endurance physical activity. SerumBDNF concentrations were assessed using an ELISA kit, with readings taken viaan ELISA reader. Normality was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and data wereanalyzed using Repeated Measures One Way ANOVA.RESULTSThe results indicated a mean BDNF level of 83.06 pg/mL before exercise, whichincreased to 87.33 pg/mL immediately after exercise (p = 0.9331). A significantincrease was observed at 72 hours post-exercise, with a mean BDNF level of114.4 pg/mL (p = 0.0422).CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONSThere was no significant difference in BDNF levels between pre-exercise andimmediately post-exercise; however, a significant increase was noted at 72 hourspost-exercise. This increase suggests the role of BDNF in muscle regenerationthrough satellite cell activity, which is crucial for muscle recovery followingphysical stress. BDNF has potential as a biomarker for muscle recovery.
