D DIron and Folic Acid (IFA) tablet supplementation is a supplement that has iron compounds, with 60 mg of iron and 400 mcg of folic acid contained in it, while Premenstrual syndrome is a disorder of the late luteal phase of the menstrual cycle where daily functions women are affected by emotional and physical symptoms that substantially impair their quality of life. In Indonesia, research has been conducted in the city of Surabaya regarding premenstrual syndrome with the result that 60.8% of female students experience mild symptoms. This study aims to examine the adherence to consumption of iron and folic acid tablets on premenstrual syndrome in adolescents.METHODThis research was conducted using an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design on 90 young female respondents at SMPN 6 Karawang Barat. Premenstrual syndrome data was measured using the shortened premenstrual assessment form (SPAF). Compliance with consumption of Iron and Folic Acid tablets was measured with the Morisky Medication 8-item Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Bivariate analysis of premenstrual syndrome and Compliance with taking Iron and Folic Acid tablets were assessed by Chi-square test with a significance level of 0.666 using SPSS version 26.RESULTSVulnerable age of respondents 13-15 years, the majority aged 14 years (60%), mild symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (58.9%), and 65.6% low adherence to consumption of Iron and Folic Acid tablets. Bivariate analysis showed no significant association between iron and folic acid consumption adherence to premenstrual syndrome in adolescents (p=0.666).CONCLUSIONThere is no relationship between adherence to consumption of iron and folic acid tablets to premenstrual syndrome in adolescents.
