P Perusahaan fabrikasi yang termasuk dalam usaha kecil dan menengah (UKM) adalah sebagai penyangga perusahaan besar untuk memenuhi kebutuhan mesin dan perlengkapan produksi. Persyaratan dari pelanggan memiliki kerumitan proses tersendiri untuk dipenuhi oleh perusahaan fabrikasi. Perusahaan fabrikasi yang termasuk dalam usaha kecil dan menengah memiliki keterbatasan untuk memenuhi persyaratan produk dari pelanggan dengan proses fabrikasi yang rumit. Kerumitan proses pekerjaan yang tidak dapat diselesaikan secara efektif berdampak pada peningkatan biaya produksi dan biaya kualitas. Perancangan model design for manufacturing (DFM) merupakan model normatif untuk mernbantu perusahaan fabrikasi mengurangi kerumitan pekerjaan fabrikasi dengan tujuan untuk meminimasi biaya produksi dan biaya kualitas. Perancangan model design. for manufacturing (DFM) dilakukan dengan cara membuat dan mengintegrasikan beberapa sub model seperti konsep desain, Design for assembly (DFA), seleksi material, pemilihan desain terbaik, Design for manufacturing (DF14, produk prototype dan produksi. Perancanagn model Design for manufacturing (DFM) juga mengintegrasikan sub model biaya produksi dan sub model biaya kualitas. Perancangan sub model tersebut juga dilengkapi dengan prosedur penerapan sub model agar dapat dijalankan dengan efektif. Penerapan rancangan model Design for manufacturing (DFM) secara efektif akan meminimasi biaya produksi dan biaya kualitas. Minimasi biaya produksi didapatkan dan pengurangan biaya komponen, biaya perakitan dan biaya pendukung produksi. Minimasi biaya kualitas didapatkan dari pengurangan biaya pencegahan, biaya penilaian, biaya eksternal, dan biaya internal. Sub model yang sudah dirancang dan terintegrasi tersebut selanjutnya diverifikasi dan divalidasi. Verifikasi dilakukan dengan studi kasus pada proses fabrikasi pembuatan palet besi di PT.Indo Mada Yasa. Hasil verifikasi penerapan rancangan model design for manufacturing (DFM) didapatkan minimasi biaya produksi pada pembuatan 1 buah palet besi sebesar 20.0% dan biaya kualitas sebesar 27.1%. Validasi rancangan model design for manufacturing (DFM) dilakukan dengan menggunakan Face Validation. Hasil validasi terhadap perancangan model design .for manufacturing (DFM) adalah model tersebut dapat diterapkan pada semua perusahaan fabrikasi dengan kategori usaha kecil dan menengah (UKM) dan dapat meminimasi biaya produksi dan biaya kualitas.

Design model design. for manufacturing (DFM) is done by creating and integrating several sub-models such as design concepts, Design for assembly (DFA), material selection, selection of the best designs, Design for manufacturing (DF14, prototype and production products. Design for manufacturing (DFM) models ) also integrates the production cost sub model and the quality cost sub model. The design of the sub model is also equipped with procedures for implementing the sub model so that it can be carried out effectively. The application of the Design for manufacturing (DFM) model design will effectively minimize production costs and quality costs. production costs are obtained and the reduction of component costs, assembly costs and production support costs. Minimization of quality costs is obtained from reduction of prevention costs, appraisal costs, external costs, and internal costs. Sub-models that have been designed and integrated are then verified and validated. Verification is carried out by case study on the fabrication process of making iron pallets at PT. Indo Mada Yasa. The results of the verification of the implementation of the design for manufacturing (DFM) model, obtained a minimum production cost of 20.0% for the manufacture of an iron pallet and a quality cost of 27.1%. Validation of the design for manufacturing (DFM) model was carried out using Face Validation. The results of the validation of the design for manufacturing (DFM) model are that the model can be applied to all fabrication companies in the category of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and can minimize production costs and quality costs.
