P Probiotic bacteria and pathogen bacteria is a normal oral flora. Probiotic have many benefits in improving oral health. Lactobacillus reuteri is one of probiotic bacteria that capable in supressing the growth of Streptococcus mutans. The purpose of this study is to determine the proportion difference of L. reuteri population between caries and caries free saliva subjects as well as to prove L. reuteri as the common oral microorganism. The subject in this study were 10 caries contracted subjects and 10 caries free subjects. DNA extraction were performed in this study and continued by 16s rRNA gene of L. reuteri using PCR methods, then the product were analyzed by UV translluminator. The result of caries free subjects showed two DNA L. reuteri band in 1100 bp. In the other hand, the result of caries subjects showed no band. The result showed the proportion difference of L. reuteri in human oral cavity between caries and caries free subjects as well as to prove L. reuteri as the common oral microorganism.
