T The prevalence of diabetes mellitus is estimated to reach 366 million by 2030, with Indonesia ranking fourth. The prevalence of DM has increased to 8.5% according to Riskesdas 2018 data. HbA1c testing is used to monitor DM, and a decrease in HbA1c reduces the risk of complications. Research results indicate a relationship between uncontrolled HbA1c levels and increased transaminase levels, but other studies state that liver dysfunction is not always associated with HbA1c levels. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between HbA1c levels and liver function in DM patients.METHODSThis research is an analytical observational study conducted with a cross-sectional approach. The study took place in October-November 2023 with a total of 93 subjects. Consecutive non-random sampling was used for sample collection. Subject characteristics, HbA1c levels, and liver function were obtained from medical records. The relationship between HbA1c levels and liver function in DM patients was analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of p < 0.05.RESULTSThe majority of subjects were patients with poorly controlled HbA1c (80 or 86%), elderly individuals (49 or 52.7%), males (48 or 51.6%), unemployed individuals(58 or 62.4%), and unmarried individuals (69 or 74.2%). There was a significant relationship between HbA1c levels and SGOT levels (p=0.040), but no significant relationship between HbA1c and SGPT levels (p=0.633).CONCLUSIONSThere was a significant relationship between HbA1c levels and SGOT levels, but no significant relationship was found between HbA1c levels and SGPT levels.
