B Baja SMO 254 selama ini digunakan sebagai plat landasan blok pencetak pada mesin tamping di PT. International Chemical Industry. Harga material mentah baja SMO 254 yang dinilai cukup tinggi menjadi alasan untuk dicari alternatif material pengganti dalam rangka menghemat biaya pengadaan suku cadang. Material pengganti yang ditentukan dalam penelitian ini adalah baja St 37 yang ditambah proses alumunizing. Karakterisasi terhadap material baja St 37 aluminizing menjawab pertanyaan apakah baja St 37 aluminizing mampu memiliki sifat kekerasan dan anti korosi yang relatif sama dengan baja SMO 254. Metode penelitian diawali dengan pemotongan sampel, proses hot dip aluminizing, uji keras, uji korosi, uji metalografi dan data yang dihasilkan dianalisa lalu diambil kesimpulan. Hasil pe elitian sebagai berikut. Hasil uji kekerasan mentmjukkan bahwa kekerasan ja SMO 254 diatas baja St 37 dengan selisih sebesar 1,63%, sedangkan p a aluminizing baja St 37 menjadi 10,95%. S SMO 254 steel has been used as a base plate for molding blocks on the tamping machine at PT. International Chemical Industry. The price of raw material for SMO 254 steel, which is considered quite high, is the reason to look for alternative material substitutes in order to save the cost of procuring spare parts. The replacement material determined in this research is St 37 steel which is added with aluminizing process. Characterization of St 37 aluminizing steel material answers the question of whether St 37 aluminizing steel is able to have hardness and anti-corrosion properties that are relatively the same as SMO 254 steel. The research method begins with sample cutting, hot dip aluminizing process, hard test, corrosion test, metallographic test and The resulting data is analyzed and then conclusions are drawn. The results of the research are as follows. The results of the hardness test show that the hardness of SMO 254 is above St 37 steel with a difference of 1.63%, while the aluminizing pa of St 37 steel is 10.95%. Corrosion test results show.
