M Mandibular fractures often occur as a result of odontectomy of impacted third molar. The risk is significantly increased in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta. Osteogenesis imperfecta is a genetic disease characterized by fragility of the bones. Mandibular fractures in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta can occur both during and after odontectomy of impacted third molar. Excessive pressure of the elevator and the use of inappropiate instruments are usually the cause of mandibular fracture during the process of odontectomy. Whereas post odontectomy fracture is due to the weakening of mandibular bone due to the loss of a wide segment/ section of the bone. Treatment of mandibular fractures in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta can be done through bisphosphonates therapy, introduction care, definitive care and post surgical care. Bisphosphonates therapy has been proven to relieve pain that is caused by mandibular fractures in patients.
