T he research area is located in Muara Enim and the surrounding area belong to the Depression area Lematang / Muara Enim Deep, so that the depressed areas is causing Muara Enim Formation as formation of coal carrier prospects for development of Coal Bed Methane. Sample of coal beneath the surface / core taken and performed laboratory analysis a total of 55 samples covering the proximate analysis, vitrinite reflectance, moisture and fixed carbon, as well as petrographic analysis throughout the analysis connected with depth. Based on geological conditions and the results of analysis of the characteristics of coal in the study area Muara Enim and the surrounding area has the potential for exploration of Coal Bed Methane. Layers that have the prospect of reservoir and source rock that is Seam Seam-1, 2, and 3, the largest vitrinite maceral conditions contained, while the price of the largest storage capacity is in Seam-2 with coal rank lignite - subbituminous C.
