L Latar Belakang: Masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut masih merupakan masalah yangsering terjadi di kalangan masyarakat Indonesia. Salah satu masalah kesehatan yangsering terjadi adalah Maloklusi. Perawatan ortodonti biasa digunakan untuk memperbaikimaloklusi dan susunan gigi. Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) merupakansalah satu indeks yang dapat digunakan untuk mengetahui tingkat kebutuhan perawatanortodonti. Dari uraian di atas dapat diasumsikan bahwa persepsi masyarakat terhadapkebutuhan perawatan ortodonti berbeda-beda. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui apakahterdapat perbedaan persepsi pria dan wanita terhadap tingkat kebutuhan perawatanortodonti berdasarkan Aesthetic Component (AC) pada mahasiswa Fakultas KedokteranGigi Universitas Trisakti. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif analitikcross sectional. Responden pada penelitian ini berjumlah 45 orang yang diperoleh secaratotal sampling. Responden diambil foto gigi geliginya dari arah frontal denganmenggunakan smartphone kemudian hasil foto tersebut akan dinilai oleh responden.Penilaian dilakukan dengan cara membandingkan foto gigi geligi responden dengan fotostandar Aesthetic Component Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need. Hasil: Data yangdiperoleh dari hasil penelitian adalah ordinal. Hasil penelitian didapatkan sebanyak 42(93,3%) mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Trisakti termasuk kedalamkategori tidak membutuhkan perawatan ortodonti, terdiri dari 9 orang (19,9%) pria dan 33orang (71,1%) wanita. Data yang telah didapat dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji MannWhitney, dengan nilai P=0,792 (p>0,05). Kesimpulan: Tidak terdapat perbedaan secarasignifikan antara persepsi pria dan wanita terhadap tingkat kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti berdasarkan Aesthetic Component Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need.
B Background of study: Oral health’s problem become more common in Indonesia societyand malocclusion is the often one. Orthodontic treatment usually used for fix themalocclusion. For understand the require treatment level, Index of Orthodontic TreatmentNeed is one of indices that can be used. Purpose: To know the different perception onmen and women towards orthodontic treatment need categories based on AestheticComponent (AC) of Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) on dentistry student ofTrisakti University. From the explanation we can assumed that there’s different opinionsabout people’s perceptions of orthodontic treatment need. Method: This research isusing cross sectional analytic descriptive research. This research used 45 respondentscollected with total sampling technic. The respondents will had their teeth picture fromfrontal side with using smartphone and then the result of it will be evaluate by therespondent itself. The evaluation will be compared with from respondent using AestheticComponent standard picture of IOTN. Result: The data of this research collected fromordinal. From the data shown 42 (93.3%) dentistry student of Trisakti University belongto not needed orthodontic treatment, consist of 9 men (19.9%) and 33 women (71.1%) .The collect data analyze with Man-Whitney test, the significant value shown in 0,792(p>0.05). Conclusion: There aren’t significant different perceptions between men andwomen addressing orthodontic treatment need categories based on Aesthetic Component of Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need.
