I In minimizing formation damage, it is very important to control filtration loss. A large filtration loss can result in a reduction in permeability so that it can trigger a reduction in the level of productivity in a formation. The addition of additives into the drilling mud is necessary to reduce the occurrence of filtration loss. This study used a natural polymer-based additive, potato starch and cassava starch, which functions as a viscosifier and as a fluid loss control agent which is considered economical, which is expected to provide good characteristics of the mud by knowing the effect of potato starch and cassava starch on filtration loss, mud cake and mud rheology (plastic viscosity, yield). point and gel strength) to achieve the desired drilling mud properties. The process of making potato starch and cassava starch is carried out by peeling, grinding, drying and sifting using a sieve. The addition of potato starch into the standard sludge formulation with a mass of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 gr. Filtration loss and mud cake testing was carried out using a LPLT (Low Pressure Low Temperature) filter press and rheology testing using a Fann VG meter. The effect that occurred with the addition of potato starch and cassava starch mass resulted in a decrease in the value of filtration loss and mud cake, while the mud rheology value increased.
