P PT. Bukit Asam adalah Badan Usaha Milik Negara yang didirikan pada tanggal 2 Maret 1981 berdasarkan PP No 42 tahun 1980, yang bergerak dalam bidang penambangan batubara. Produksi batubara tahun 2000 adalah sebesar 10.746.031 ton. Lokasi penambangan dibagi menjadi 2 yaitu Unit Pertambangan Tanjung Enim (UPTE), dan Unit Pertambangan Ombilin (UPO). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kadar debu total di lokasi penambangan batubara, sehingga didapatkan suatu gambaran bagaimana hubungan kadar debu total di udara ambien dalam lokasi penambangan dapat berpengaruh terhadap kesehatan para karyawan (terutama gangguan saluran pernafasan).Waktu penelitan adalah antara tanggal 10 September 2001 sampai dengan tanggal 10 Desember 2001. Tempat penelitian adalah lokasi penambangan batubara PT. Bukit Asam UPTE Sumatera Selatan. Unit Penambangan Tanjung Enim dibagi menjadi tiga lokasi yaitu Tambang Air Laya, Muara Tiga Besar, dan Banko Barat. Titik berat penelitian berada pada lokasi Tambang Air Laya karena dikelola langsung oleh PT. Bukit Asam.Pengumpulan data dibagi menjadi pengumpulan data primer dan sekunder. Untuk pengumpulan data primer ini dibagi menjadi dua bagian yaitu data kualitas udara dan data responden. Data responden diperoleh dengan melakukan kuesioner tentang status kesehatan para karyawan berdasarkan kuesioner baku dari American Thoracic Society. Pengumpulan data kadar debu dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat High Volume Air Sampler (HVAS) dengan metode Gravimetri. Data kualitas udara dan hasil wawancara diolah dengan menggunakan progam SPSS.Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah karyawan yang menderita gejala gangguan saluran pernafasan sebanyak 94 orang (75,2 %) dan yang tidak menderita gejala gangguan saluran pernafasan sebanyak 31 orang (24,8 %). Data kualitas udara yang diperoleh dari hasil sampling adalah pada lokasi TAL I sebesar 1,064 mg/m , lokasi TAL 2 sebesar 1,2965 mg/m3, lokasi TAL 3 sebesar 0,5375 mg/m , lokasi TAL 4 sebesar 1,405 mg/m3, dan lokasi kantor sebesar 0,065 mg/m . Hasil ini menunjukan bahwa kadar debu pada empat lokasi penambangan masih dibawah Nilai Ambang Batas (NAB) yaitu 2 mg/m° (Surat Edaran Menteri Tenaga Kerja No. SE 01/ Menaker/ 1997) untuk material partikulat yang mengandung kristal silika <5 %, tetapi diatas Baku Mutu Kualitas Udara Ambien sebesar 0,23 mg/m3 (PP 41/ 1999).

P PT. Bukit Asam is one of the state owned corporations in which established at March 2“ of 1981 based on PP No 42 of 1980, which its aeld involves in coal mining. Coal production in 2000 was 10.746.031 tons. The mining site is decided into 2 as follows: Mining Section or Unit Pertambangan Tanjung Enim (UPTE), and Mining Section or Unit Pertambangan Ombilin (UPO). This research is conducted in order to know the total level of dust at surrounding or ambient air in the mining location that can affect workers health status (particularly obstruction on respiratory duct).Research time was between September 10° of 2001 until December 10 of 2001. Research site is coal mining location of PT. Bukit Asam UPTE of South Sumatera. The mining section or Unit Pertambangan Tanjung Enim decided into three locations in which Air Laya, Muara Tiga Besar, and Banko Barat Mining Site. Focus of research allowed on location of Air Laya Mining site since it is directly managed by PT. Bukit Asam.Data collection was divided into primary and secondary data collection. For this primary data collection divided into two parts in which air quality data and respondent data. Respondent data obtained by conducting questioner regarding workers health status in accordance with standard questioner of American Thoracic Society. Data Collection about dust level conducted by using High Volume Air Sampler (HVAS) with Gravimetry method. - quality data and interview results processed by using the SPSS program.Result of this research devided respondents into those who were affected by symptoms of respiratory obstruction 94 people (75,2 %) and those not affected by symptoms of respiratory duct obstruction 31 people (24,8 %). Data of air quality in which acquéed from sampling at location of TAL 1 amounted to a concentration of 1,064 mg/m3, at location of TAL 2 amounted to a concentration 1,2965 mg/m’, at location of TAL 3 amounted to a concentration of 0,5375 mg/m3, at location of TAL 4 amounted to a concentration of 1,405 mg/m°, and office's site amounted to a concentration of 0,065 mg/m'. These results indicate that the dust level on those four mining sites remained under Threshold Limit Value or Nilai Ambang Batas (NAB) of 2 mg/m’ (Circular Letter of Minister of Labour No SE 01/ Menaker/ 1997) for particulate material in which contain silica crystal < 5%, however above surruonding or ambient air quality Standard of Baku Mutu Kualitas Udara Ambien of 0,23 mg/m (PP No 41 tahun 1999).Conclusions that can be drawn kom this research, show for instance that there is significant correlation between total level of dust against complains of respiratory duct obstruction on workers at PT. Bukit Asam UPTE of South Sumatera. Total level of dust is very affective toward the probability that someone may be affected by respiratory duct obstruction. Risk of a worker to be affected by respiratory duct obstruction is 3,087 times.It is recommended to wear self protection devices such as dust masks, safety shoes, gloves, safety helmets. Beside, it is also recommended to intensify the frequency of road spraying by water particularly on very bright days when the sun shines extremely hot. Intensifies re- vegetation activites since it can prevent blows of the wind (wind break) so that can avoid dust dispersion to the housing, and vehicle should be more comply to the maximum speed limit.
