S Surakarta is a city that is growing so fast that many are making it into a tourism destination and marketing area for the latest items from electronics companies and others. However, the construction of a convention center is also very much needed to support the city area. Conferences buildings are generally multi-purpose buildings that combine conference and exhibition venues which have a very wide area that can accommodate thousands of visitors. The convention has venues such as meeting rooms,exhibition halls, entertainment platforms and concerts. Conventions must also be able to accommodate the functions of MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition) (Lawson, Congress, Convention & exhibition facilities, 2000). By using a futureistic modern architectural approach, the Convention and Exhibition building can become a new icon for Surakarta so that it can increase the tourism potential in the area around Surakarta.
