L Lumpur pemboran merupakan materi yang sangat penting dalam suatuoperasi pemboran, karena dapat mempengaruhi keselamatan kerja, effisiensi,kecepatan pemboran dan biaya pemboran. Agar lumpur pemboran dapat berfungsi dengan baik, maka lumpur tersebut harus selalu dikontrol sifat-sifat fisiknya, yaitu antara lain terdiri dari berat jenis, rheology, apparent viscosity, daya agar (gel strength), laju tapisan, mud cake, dan pH lumpur. Penggunaan lumpur pemboran disesuaikan dengan kondisi formasi, batuan formasi, dan kandungan fluida yang terdapat dalam formasi. Lumpur bor sendiri terbagi menjadi 3 tipe berdasarkan fasa fluidanya yaitu water base mud, oil base mud, dan emultion mud. Pada studi Laboratorium ini dibahas tentang lumpur berjenis water base mud, yaitu Pottasium Chloride Polymer yang biasa disebut dengan nama KCl Polimer yang mengalami shale problem. Dalam tugas akhir ini, penulis mengadakan serangkaian uji coba di laboratorium untuk mengetahui penambahan K-Soltex dan Bore Trole, terhadap sifat-sifat lumpur Pottasium Chloride (KCl) Polymer yang mengalami pengembangan padatan aktif di laboratorium, serta membandingan diantara kedua additive ini mana yang lebih efektif dalam memperbaiki sifat-sifat fisik pada lumpur yang mengalami q padatan aktif (Shale Problem). Dari serangkaian penelitian di laboratorium, didapat hasil bahwa keduanya hampir bisa mengatasi shale problem, hanya saja Bore Trole dapat lebih cepat mengatasi adanya padatan aktif. Dapat dilihat dari turunnya nilai Funnel Viscosity, Plastic Viscosity, Gel Strength, dan Filte Loss. Sedangkan K-Soltex sedikit lambat untuk mengatasi shale problem tersebut.
