I Indonesia dikenal sebagai negara agraris.

R Relationship between Work Intensity and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in Farmers in North Sumatra Indonesia is known as an agricultural country. As many as 40% of the population work as farmers and 10% of them are rice farmers. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a work-related disease. Repetitive movements are one of the risk factors for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. In working, many rice farmers do repetitive movements. Farmers who work> 40 hours / week will do more repetitive movements, thus increasing the risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between work intensity with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in rice farmers. METHODS Cross sectional studies were conducted in the village of Tambakdahan, Subang, West Java in June 2017. The study sample of 70 respondents was taken using the consecutive method. Collecting data regarding the characteristics of age, sex, and work intensity using a questionnaire. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome diagnosis was obtained by history, physical examination, namely Phalen and Tinel's examination and Boston's Carpal Tunnel questionnaire. Data analysts used Chi-Square and or Fisher Exact Test with SPSS 23.0.HASILPetani program in Tambakdahan village dominated by men (81.4%). Most farmers are> 30 years old (87.1%). There were 34 of 70 farmers (48, 6%) experiencing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. As many as 88.2% of farmers who experience Carpal Tunnel Syndrome work> 40 hours / week. There is a significant relationship between the intensity of work with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (p = 0.02). There was no correlation between age and sex with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (p = 0.731 and p = 0.365). CONCLUSION There was a relationship between the intensity of work with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. High work intensity will increase the risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. There is no relationship between age and sex with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
