T Tanaman serai dapur (Cymbopogon citratus) menunjukkan potensi besarsebagai sumber bahan alam untuk obat-obatan, karena kandungan senyawa-senyawaseperti neral, citral, geranial acetate, flavonoid, dan tannin, yang disebutkan memilikiaktivitas farmakologis seperti antibakteri, antijamur, dan antiinflamasi. Hasil studisebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun serai dapur dan kitosan memiliki aktivitasantibakteri terhadap berbagai jenis bakteri. Staphylococcus aureus dan Streptococcuspyogenes termasuk dalam bakteri yang berpotensi menyebabkan infeksi pada oral dengankebersihan yang rendah. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak daun serai dapuryang terenkapsulasi dengan kitosan terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus danStreptococcus pyogenes. Metode: Penelitian eksperimental menggunakan cakram difusiuntuk mengetahui zona hambat dari tiap sediaan enkapsulasi. Kelompok uji dibagi menjadi4 sediaan perbandingan kitosan : NaTPP, yaitu 1:1 ; 1:0,9 ; 1:0,8 ; 1:0,7 . Hasil: Zonahambat terhadap bakteri S.aureus untuk tiap perbandingan enkapsulasi 1:1 ; 1:0,9 ; 1:0,8 ;1:0,7, yaitu 25,09±0,62 mm, 21.01±0,13 mm, 22.78±0,39 mm, 23,96±0.14 mm, Sedangkanzona hambat terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri S.pyogenes berturut-turut 1 : 1 ; 1 : 0,9 ; 1 : 0,8; dan 1 : 0,7, yaitu 24,38±0,45 mm, 21.99±0,34 mm, 22.44±0,48 mm, dan 20,49±0.24.Kesimpulan: Ekstrak daun serai dapur efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteriS.aures dan S.pyogenes, dengan perbandingan konsentrasi 1: 1 terbukti memiliki efekantibakteri tertinggi.

T The Cymbopogon citratus, commonly known as the citronella plant, hasgained significant attention as a potential source of natural ingredients for the developmentof medicinal products. This plant species contains a range of biologically activecompounds such as neral, citral, geranial acetate, flavonoids, and tannins, which possessa variety of pharmacological activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, and antiinflammatory.Previous studies have demonstrated the antibacterial properties ofcitronella leaf extract and chitosan against diverse bacterial strains. Notably,Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes are among the types of bacteria thatcould potentially cause oral infections in individuals with poor hygiene. Objective: Theobjective of this study is to evaluate the inhibitory potential of citronella leaf extract thathas been encapsulated with chitosan against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcuspyogenes bacteria. Method: Experimental studies use diffusion discs to determine theinhibitory zone of each encapsulated preparation. The test group was divided into fourchitosan comparison preparations: NaTPP, which is 1:1; 1:0,9; 1:0,8; 1:0,7. Results: Thepresent study investigated the inhibitory zone against two types of bacteria, S. aureus andS. pyogenes, for various encapsulation ratios. The results showed that the inhibitory zoneof S. aureus bacteria for each encapsulation ratio, 1:1; 1:0.9; 1:0.8; 1:0.7, was 25.09±0.62mm, 21.01±0.13 mm, 22.78±0.39 mm, and 23.96±0.14 mm, respectively. Similarly, theinhibition zone against the growth of S. pyogenes bacteria was observed for the sameencapsulation ratios, namely 1:1; 1:0.9; 1:0.8; and 1:0.7. The corresponding inhibitoryzones were 24.38±0.45 mm, 21.99±0.34 mm, 22.44±0.48 mm, and 20.49±0.24 mm,respectively. These findings suggest that the encapsulation ratio has a significant impacton the inhibitory efficacy of the tested bacteria. Further research is warranted to explorethe optimal encapsulation ratio for maximum inhibitory activity against pathogenicbacteria. Conclusion: Citronella leaf extract effectively inhibits the growth of S.aures andS.pyogenes bacteria, with a concentration ratio of 1:1 shown to have the highestantibacterial effect.
