L Latar belakang : Mahkota sementara merupakan kunci penting keberhasilan dalam perawatan gigi tiruan cekat. Perawatan menggunakan mahkota sementara dinilai berhasil bila memenuhi beberapa syarat seperti aspek biologis, mekanis, dan estetis. Kekuatan mekanis bahan mahkota sementara merupakan faktor penting karena dapat mempengaruhi ketahanan bahan terhadap fraktur selama pemakaian (kurang lebih 1-2 minggu atau beberapa bulan). Tujuan : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kekuatan tekan antara 2 bahan mahkota sementara, yaitu resin akrilik self-cure merk Vertex dan resin komposit bis-acryl merk Protemp II. Metode : Cetakan mould berbahan akrilik dengan diameter 4 mm dan tinggi 6 mm disiapkan untuk membuat 10 spesimen setiap bahan. Seluruh sampel yang sudah dibuat direndam dalam larutan bidestilata steril pada suhu ruangan sebelum diuji. Pengujian sampel menggunakan alat Universal Testing Machine (shimadzu AG 50) dilakukan sampai sampel mengalami fraktur. Hasil : Nilai kekuatan tekan menunjukkan resin komposit bis-acryl (Protemp II) memiliki kekuatan tekan 359,5 MPa dan resin akrilik self-cure Vertex 141,7 MPa. Kesimpulan : Analisis uji statistik Mann Whitney U menyatakan bahwa terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada nilai kekuatan tekan dimana resin komposit bis-acryl memiliki kekuatan tekan lebih besar dibandingkan resin akrilik self-cure merk Vertex. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu dokter gigi dalam memilih bahan mahkota sementara yang sesuai pada setiap kasus.

B Background: Accurate measurement of vertical dimension of occlusion is a critical step in denture care in order to recover several oral functions, including mastication, phonetic, and also aesthetic of the user. According to Boyanov and Margo, measurement of tubercle lines and lip lines distance can be used as one of the methods to determine vertical dimension of occlusion. The research based on tubercle line and lip line distance has never been done on the Deutro Malay race. The objective : This study was conducted to investigate the difference between the distance of tubercle and lip lines based on facial measurement among students of Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University who are of Deuto Melayu race. Materials and methods : The study population was the students of Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University who were categorized as Deuto Melayu race group. This study included a total of 17 males and 17 females who were eligible for inclusion; aged 18-25 years old, had never done any orthodontic care, jaw connection class 1, and no absent teeth except for M3. The measurement of tubercle line and lip lines distance was done using calipers with 0.01 mm precision. The results : The test of data from tubercle line and lip line distance were analysed using paired t-test (SPPS 21) and the results were as follow; males (p = 0.904), females (p = 0.151), and entire group (p = 0.348). The results showed that there is no significant difference between sex and entire group (p > 0,05). Conclusion : Measurement of tubercle lines and lip lines distance did not show significant difference and therefore can be used as one of the methods to determine vertical dimension of occlusion.
